Wyoming Adventures: June and July

I know that it's the 20th of July. And that I haven't posted my June post yet. And, well, part of the reason is because my computer's been acting up lately and having issues connecting to the internet, but the bigger reason is that I don't miss using the internet on my computer all that much, and thus haven't really bothered trying to figure it out. So, if you're someone who's been regularly checking my blog to see if...

Wyoming Adventures: May

I had decided earlier in the year that I needed to take the summer off from wedding pictures, as I'm not completely sure that they're something that I want to continue doing. I LOVE taking the pictures, and I absolutely love being there for a wedding day (I've teared up at every single one.) But, I really don't love the hours sitting at my computer going through and editing pictures. I don't...

my people

Wednesday we got our Christmas card picture taken and out of the way. When I do our family picture, it's a bit of a process. The camera gets set up on the tripod and everyone gets told where to stand. Then I take a few test shots, take my place, and use the remote to snap the picture. And when the remote doesn't work, we call mom and have her come down from the house and push the button for us. And sometimes we...

life lately

I've been busy. Between school and work and holidays and pictures, I've had no time for blogging. So this is my attempt to catch up. I'll have session posts coming, hopefully in the near future, but as for my real life, this is what I've been up to.

Starting with Thanksgiving, the first real break from school that I had all first semester. It was...

summer: part four

When I was in elementary school, my family spent a weekend in Mackinac City, and there just so happened to be a reenactment at Fort Michilimackinac that same weekend. There were Indian soldiers and families, along with the settler soldiers and families, and they reenacted everything! Daily life, games that were played, battle scenes, everything! To an elementary school kid who had never seen anything like it...

summer: part three

Grand Haven is a pretty popular spot for the fourth. I've gone a few years, and every time, the beach is crammed full of people. And I'm not at all a big crowd person, so this is pretty much my fill of public beaches for the year, But the day in itself is worth it.

Whenever we go, we make a long day of it. We get up early, pack a lunch, then drive...

summer: part two

The fourth of July weekend, a few of us girls bombed downstate, with plans of heading to Grand Haven for the fourth (which will be the next blog post!)

But I always feel bad going downstate because, now that I don't live there, I feel like I can never fit all that I want to do and all the people I want to see, in just a short weekend......

summer: part one

It's been awhile. And I apologize for that. But at the same time I don't, because I feel I have good reason.

And my reason is this. I live at my family's camp (cottage/cabin/whatever you want to call it) year round, and the family comes up in the summer. And a camp isn't really a camp if it has wifi, so I disconnected it as soon as the school year ended...

sisters weekend

Growing up, I was always so jealous of my friends who had older sisters. They always seemed to know things that I didn't and went places that I couldn't. I often felt as if I was one step behind them, feeling my way through things without an older sister there in front of me to lead the way.

But as much as I wished I had an older sister...

photography is my therapy

Photography is kind of my version of therapy. Walking around with my camera, snapping photos of God's creations, lost in my own little world of thought is always just what I need to keep me sane.

All of these pictures were taken in my yard, within the last month or so. The forget-me-not's grew along the lake, the blossoms bloomed...

mackinac city

The weekend school ended, my cousin Brenna and I headed down to Mackinac City to meet our moms and sisters for a girls weekend. The weather wasn't exactly ideal, but we had a fun weekend exploring the few shops that were open, visiting the Graylon Zoo on US-2, swimming in the hotel pools, playing on the sand dunes, and just hanging out...

hands-on museum

I was home this past weekend, and, in typical younger sibling fashion, the kids begged me to take them somewhere. So, on Saturday, six of us piled in the car and drove down to the Hands-On Museum in Ann Arbor. I hadn't been there since we took a field trip in elementary school, and, as I am SUCH a child at heart, I've been meaning to go back for quite awhile. Days like this make me so glad that...

spring sunset

This week the weather has been GORGEOUS. On Tuesday a few of us drove out to McLain's to watch the sunset over Superior and I felt just like a kid on field day; the night was beautiful, and I had my camera. What more do I need?

marquette adventuring

I remember when I first moved out and moved up here, I was so nervous about if it was really the right thing for me to do. I was nervous about if I would be able to be myself around so many people I had never met, whether or not I could handle my Depression on my own, and if I would go crazy living in a quite house after growing up in one with 13 other people. I had no idea what I was doing with...

winter adventure

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been loving the weather around here lately. For most of the week we had sunny skies and above 0 temps, which made for the perfect adventuring weather.

On Wednesday I went with a few girls out to Freda to watch the sunset and I am SO glad I brought my camera along...

the start of my long weekend

This weekend is winter carnival at Tech, which means no school for the next two days(!). That, combined with the fact that my phone is telling me it feels like -17 out and it isn't supposed to warm up anytime soon, means that I likely won't be leaving my house for a few days.

Not gonna lie, I'm looking forward to a long weekend of blankets and coffee and...

i miss these people

Since I have time on my hands for the first time in forever, and since I just realized that I never blogged these pictures, here's another post! Two days in a row!

This is our annual Christmas card/school picture photo shoot, which we did at the end of our road the weekend before I moved up...

it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

...at least it is in the yoop. I took these pictures Thursday when I was home between exams, when it was gorgeous and sunny and I was sick of studying. But now I'm home for Christmas, and it feels so good to be back, even if there is no snow on the ground and we may not have...

dynamic range photo assignment

The most recent assignment for my Digital Images class was Dynamic Range, which I guess I would define as multiple exposures within one image. Or being able to show the detail that's in the shadows and in the highlights, without having any parts of the image too overexposed or too underexposed. I did an assignment similar to this in my high school photography class, and I was...

perfect fall afternoon

Last week was absolutely gorgeous; perfect summer weather but with the beautiful fall colors. Friday afternoon I took my camera and went for a walk, which is always THE best. i love this place

I should be studying for my Biology exam tomorrow but eh. I'm going to do this instead. Because I think life isn't for just getting through, but it's for living. So I'm making time to do the things that I love.

In addition to my 'academic' classes at Tech, where I actually have to learn things, I made sure to fit in classes that I can take simply because...

fall hike

Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous. So when my friends texted to say that they were going to hike up Mount Bohemia, I, naturally, set my unfinished homework aside and went with. I had been up to Bohemia this past winter to ski, and it was a beautiful view from the top in the dead of winter, so I figured it would be this time of year too when the leaves were starting to change. Granted, I didn’t have to...

i moved out

This whole growing up thing is a little weird for me. At times I feel like I'm way too young to be moving out and living alone. But then there are other times when everything just feels so right and I feel so ready to take on everything that's coming my way. But even when it does feel like everything is the way it's supposed to be, I still miss my home and my childhood. I still miss being a kid, running around with no...

small town minnesota

The summer before junior year. Had my brother not been working out in North Dakota, it wouldn't have been a big deal that he was going to be in Minnesota that particular weekend. Had he not been going there, my dad and I wouldn't have made the trip from home to the UP to Minnesota, arriving at 8 in the morning. Had I not slept all day after being up all night, I would have been out and about with...

beautiful sunday afternoon

Cami had Samantha over after church today and when they started complaining that they were bored, I offered an idea. We used to drag these old sheets out all the time when we were little, search the woods for the perfect sticks, build a tepee, and then spend hours playing house, or cowboys and indians, or whatever. Apparently it's been quite awhile since this has happened around here, as Cami is...
